The Firefighter Physical Fitness Test (FPFT)
A modern standard built for real fireground performance — not gym showmanship. Learn the test. Train for it. Own it.
Train for the FPFTWhat Is the FPFT?
The Firefighter Physical Fitness Test (FPFT) is a five-event assessment developed by firefighters, for firefighters. It measures what actually matters: lower and upper body strength, trunk stability, anaerobic power, muscular endurance, and aerobic capacity — all in one demanding session.
It’s validated, data-driven, and operationally relevant.
Why the FPFT Was Created
Outdated tests like the CPAT or 1.5-mile run miss key attributes of real-world firefighter performance. Departments relying on them faced inconsistent results, unnecessary injuries, and a lack of insight into true readiness.
The FPFT was built to fix that — created by firefighters who wanted something better. It reflects fireground tasks, encourages effort beyond bare minimums, and gives evaluators real insight into who’s truly ready for the academy — and the job.
